"Curry Creek" Original Watercolor Painting by Shirley Nootbaar

Shirley Nootbaar has been painting the ridges, roads and ranches of the East Bay for 50 years. She exhibits at the Valley Art Gallery and is a regular contributor to Save Mount Diablo's Moonlight on the Mountain.

Many of the scenes have changed and evolved from quiet rural landscapes to busy urban developments. There is still subject matter left in our area that reflects the genre of the past and we are fortunate to have much natural open space saved. Mount Diablo's stunning dominance is a part of surrounding views and offers an outstanding image for artists.

"Snow Day on Mount Diablo" Metal Print by Scott Hein

Snow Day on Mount Diablo is a 16"x24" print of Mount Diablo covered in snow taken from the east side of the mountain. The image is printed on metal using a special process that results in a luminous and durable print.

Scott Hein is a freelance nature photographer whose passion is photographing the native plants, wildlife, and landscapes of the American West. Although his explorations have taken him from Alaska to Antarctica, the wild lands and parks surrounding Mount Diablo near his home in Northern California remain his favorite photo locations. "Curry Canyon Summer" Oil Painting by John Tullis

He has witnessed massive changes over the decades and learned to adapt. Being a visual artist means to see beauty everywhere, without judgment. John has been drawing since he was a kid. He majored in art and graphic design in college and worked in the printing industry for 40 years. About 15 years ago he picked up his brushes again and began his second career as an oil painter. His engagement with landscape photography is reflective of his previous study of forestry and long-held interest in the stewardship of trees. Photographic craftsmanship is of utmost importance to McWee, who worked as a master printer for many years, creating dye transfer prints for Ilford as well as for many photographers, including Paul Capanigro, Francis Caldwell, Art Wolfe, Mark Abrahamson, and Eliot Porter. McWee studied with John Bache and Judy Fiskin at the California Institute of the Arts. His work is held in several collections, including the Washington State Art Collection, Museum of Contemporary Photography, and the Zion National Park Museum Collection in Springdale, Utah. "Juniper, Diablo" Watercolor by Greg Piatt

Original framed watercolor, 13.5" by 16.5". Artist Greg Piatt is a fine-arts printmaker specializing in lithography, monotype, and relief work in his studio/printshop in Pleasant Hill, California. Greg grew up in the wooded East Bay hills, and that environment fostered a deep love and respect for landscape and wildlife. This lasting attraction to nature has influenced his art, from the flowing brushwork of his plein air painting and prints to his mixed-media pieces. Known for his 30 years of plein air painting in watercolor and oil on wood, Greg has exhibited worldwide and has sold through galleries and his studio/printshop. 

Greg is a specialist in stone lithography, and maintains the presses and stones required for this unique discipline in his studio. He has taught as a guest artist and master printer in a variety of schools, including the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Kala Institute in Berkeley, and the California State Prison in Vacaville. Since 1992 Greg has served as co-curator of Mt. Diablo Summit Museum Art Gallery in Mt. Diablo State Park. His diverse interests range from archery to birding, collecting (ceramic elves, bows and arrows, carved wooden animals, colored LPs), music, Miwok Indian culture, planting, pruning, and skiing. Greg obtained a BFA and MFA at the California College of the Arts and Crafts and recently retired as Senior Adjunct Professor, Printmaking, at CCAC.
